Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Objective:

Carrying out the duties of the engineering department including design, research, prototyping, documentation, estimating and process improvement. This position is safety-sensitive.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance to correct unsafe actions or conditions.
  2. Responsible for the design, research, prototype, documentation, estimation and process improvement of PDC’s tools & equipment.
  3. Collaborate with the design team on projects to ensure that designs are feasible
  4. Calculate factors including tolerance, dimensions, structural analysis, and safety where applicable.
  5. Verify that designed components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards
  6. Provide technical input contributing to a thorough understanding of customer needs and PDC’s ability to meet them.
  7. Identify and offer solutions to complex design challenges as they present themselves.
  8. Collaborate as required or appointed with the production team to help solve manufacturing issues.
  9. Oversee the execution of the developed design concept to ensure the final offering stays true to the initial and agreed-upon vision.
  10. Conduct flow simulations on applicable tools. Record and evaluate testing data, altering designs as necessary to bring them to safety, performance and efficiency standards
  11. Attend engineering team meetings to provide progress reports, obtain updates on colleagues’ progress, strategize on steps for the upcoming week and acquire information about projected emerging product lines
  12. Organize and maintain existing engineering records. Complete necessary paperwork and input data into company record systems as required.
  13. Conduct field work inspections, assessments & repairs as required.
  14. Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering – P.Eng Designation
  • 8-10 years of related experience
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD software and drafting procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes
  • Understanding of current cutting tool technology
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Auto Desk Professional, and AutoCAD
  • Excellent prioritization and project development skills
  • Effective written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Passionate self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective deadline management skills.
